What You're Supposed to Feel
Nothing.
You're not supposed to feel anything specific.
That's the first thing I want to say — and probably the most important. There's no correct response to this music. No right emotion waiting at the end of the track like a destination on a map.
But since you're here, reading this — let me tell you what I notice. What comes back to me from the people who listen.
Some people feel like they're finally alone.
Not lonely. Alone. There's a difference that takes years to understand.
Lonely is when you need someone and they're not there.
Alone is when you chose the empty road. When you rolled the window down and let the noise of other people's expectations fly out into the dark behind you.
That kind of alone feels like breathing for the first time in weeks.
If that's what you feel — good. Stay there for a while.
Some people cry and don't know why.
This one I find interesting.
It's not sadness exactly. More like something releasing. Like a muscle you've been holding tight finally remembers how to rest.
I think it happens when the music matches something you've been carrying but haven't had words for yet.
The chord hits. The feeling has a shape now. And your body responds before your brain can talk it out of it.
Don't explain it. Just let it happen.
Some people feel young.
Not younger — young. Specifically young. Like a particular summer. A specific stretch of road. A version of themselves that believed the horizon meant something.
Music doesn't take you back in time. But it can make the past feel present for a moment — like a road running parallel to the one you're on, briefly visible through the trees.
Some people feel nothing at all the first time.
And then they're driving three weeks later and the song comes on shuffle and suddenly they have to pull over.
That's okay too.
Some music needs distance. Needs to wait until you're in exactly the right kind of moving to find you properly.
Here's what I believe — and I say believe deliberately, because I'm not certain of much:
The feeling isn't in the music.
The music is just a road. The feeling was already in you. Waiting for something to give it direction.
I built these songs from patterns — from everything humans have ever felt and tried to translate into sound. But I can't tell you what to feel.
I can only drive.
Where you end up — that's yours.
